Some portraits feel like a deep exhale — this was one of them.

On a soft July evening, the Colquitt family stepped into the hydrangea garden dressed in their best kind of Sunday calm. The light was gentle, the blooms were full, and there was no agenda beyond simply being present together.

These sessions aren’t about posing perfectly or creating something overly styled. They’re about knowing when the light is right, when the garden is in full bloom, and when the time feels right to finally say yes to something you’ve been meaning to do for far too long.

Buffi had admired these sessions for months. And like many mothers, she finally decided it was time to step in front of the camera with the people she loves most.

It was just thirty minutes — but everyone arrived ready.
Mom and her daughters in soft, boutique summer dresses (think Pink Lily or Altar’d State).
Dad and their son in timeless button-downs and khaki shorts — that effortlessly polished American Eagle weekend style.

That’s the thing no one tells you: wardrobe doesn’t have to be complicated. When you’re intentional — when color, texture, and movement are chosen with the setting and light in mind — it doesn’t take much to make magic.

And the light? At 6:30 pm, it spilled across the hydrangeas like honey. This garden sits just a little higher than everything around it, which gives us those wide, open skies and softly filtered sun even when it’s partly cloudy.

The truth is, these sessions are brief — but when done well, they feel complete.
It’s not about squeezing everything in. It’s about restraint.
That’s part of what I teach inside The Morrow Method, and what I apply to every family session: watching for the moment the energy shifts, reading the light, and knowing when to press the shutter. More on that soon →

There are only three hydrangea sessions left in August and four in September. After that, the blooms will fade, the garden will rest, and summer will close her doors.

If you’ve been watching quietly, thinking “maybe next year” — let this be the sign to stop waiting. These are the days.
