Limelight hydrangeas change considerably as summer moves toward fall. In August, the blooms tend to be pale green, creamy white, and unmistakably summery. As they mature, they often begin developing softer pink and antiqued tones that feel naturally suited to early fall.
That means choosing a session date is not simply a matter of finding an open evening. It is also about deciding which version of the garden you prefer.
I’m offering a limited number of 20-minute Limelight Hydrangea Sessions at The McGarity House in Temple, Georgia, during August and September. These focused seasonal sessions are available for immediate families, maternity, motherhood, children, seniors, and couples.

Choosing August for a Lighter Summer Palette
August is the stronger choice if you are drawn to fresh greenery, creamy blooms, and the lighter feeling of late summer.
During this part of the season, the Limelight hydrangeas will generally appear pale green or creamy white against the deeper garden foliage. Light neutrals, soft blues, muted greens, dusty pastels, and understated patterns can all work beautifully with this palette.
August photographs will usually feel brighter and more distinctly summery. The exact color and condition of the blooms will always depend on the plants and that year’s growing conditions, but this is the month I would choose for someone who wants the garden at its freshest and greenest.

Choosing September for an Early-Fall Feeling
As Limelight hydrangeas mature, the blooms often begin developing pinker, softer, and more antiqued tones. This can give the garden an early-fall feeling without placing you in a traditional autumn setting.
September works particularly well with warmer neutrals, muted rose, faded blue, olive, soft brown, burgundy, and other colors that lean gently toward fall.
No particular date can guarantee a specific shade. Weather and the condition of the individual plants still have the final word. However, if you want photographs that feel less like high summer and more like the beginning of fall, September is likely to be the better choice.
A Short Hydrangea Session or a Full Session?
The 20-minute Limelight Hydrangea Sessions are designed around one specific part of The McGarity House property: the hydrangea garden.
We will remain within that area rather than using the session time to walk between locations. This allows us to work efficiently and create a cohesive collection centered on the changing blooms.
These are not full sessions compressed into 20 minutes. They are intentionally focused sessions for clients who want one beautiful setting, one general look, and a smaller finished gallery.
A full session planned at The McGarity House is a different experience. With more time, we may be able to use other areas of the property, including the historic home, large front porch, brick staircase, micro vineyard, old oak trees, barn, and surrounding grounds. The locations we use will depend on the evening light, the needs of the session, venue availability, and any arrangements required for private access to the property.
The difference is not simply more minutes or more photographs. A full session provides greater visual variety and more flexibility for movement, different family combinations, individual portraits, and the natural pauses that often lead to the most interesting images.
Choose the shorter Limelight Hydrangea Session if you want one focused setting and a concise gallery.
Choose a full session if you want the larger property to become part of the photographs, need several groupings, want more variety, or prefer a slower and more flexible pace.

Who Are These Sessions For?
Limelight Hydrangea Sessions may be used for:
- Immediate families
- Motherhood portraits
- Children
- Maternity
- Seniors
- Couples
They work best when you have one clear priority and are comfortable remaining within the hydrangea garden for the entire session.
For family sessions, participation is limited to immediate family members. Extended families, numerous groupings, multiple outfits, or children who may need considerable time to become comfortable will usually be better served by a full session.

What Can We Accomplish in 20 Minutes?
Twenty minutes can be enough when the session is carefully planned around one location and a clear set of priorities.
For a family, I will begin with the most important groupings. We can then use the remaining time for closer portraits, individual children, movement, or quieter interactions as appropriate.
Maternity, senior, motherhood, and couple sessions can be approached in much the same way, with the essential photographs handled first.
What we will not do is rush through the entire property or attempt to create the same range as a full session. The shorter format works because its purpose is specific.
What Is Included?
Each Limelight Hydrangea Session includes:
- 20-minute portrait session
- 15 edited digital images selected from an online proofing gallery
- Wardrobe and styling guidance
- Immediate family only for family sessions
- Option to upgrade to the full gallery for $275
- $375 session fee
Because The McGarity House is a privately reserved location, selecting a date begins as a request. I will confirm the venue’s availability before payment is collected.
Once the date has been confirmed, the full $375 session fee is due. Your session is officially reserved after payment has been received.
Planning Around Weather and the Garden
These are seasonal outdoor sessions, so weather, evening light, and the condition of the garden all matter.
Limelight hydrangeas naturally change as they mature, but no calendar can guarantee the precise color or condition of a living plant on a particular evening. I will keep an eye on both the weather and the garden as the season progresses.
If conditions make the planned session unworkable, rescheduling or other available options will be handled accordingly.

What to Wear in the Georgia Summer Heat
August and September can both be hot in Georgia, even when the hydrangeas begin taking on their early-fall color. Dress for the actual temperature rather than the season you are trying to suggest. September does not require sweaters, heavy boots, or layers to create an autumnal feeling. A warmer color palette can give us that look without making anyone uncomfortable.
Choose lightweight, breathable fabrics and clothing that allows you to move easily. Dresses with some shape and movement, lightweight button-downs, soft cottons, linen blends, and comfortable children’s clothing generally work better than heavy knits, stiff fabrics, or several layers. The goal is to coordinate with the garden while keeping everyone cool enough to remain comfortable and present in the photographs.
I will provide a misting fan on especially warm evenings so we can cool off as needed. We can also take brief pauses for water or to let children settle. These sessions are concise, but there is no benefit in pushing through the heat when a quick break will help everyone look and feel better.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 20 minutes enough for a family?
It can be when your family wants a focused session within one setting. I will begin with the most important family grouping and use the remaining time as naturally and efficiently as possible.
A full session is the better choice when you want more variety, several combinations, or additional time for children to settle into the experience.
Can extended family members attend?
These seasonal sessions are limited to immediate family members. Extended-family sessions require more time and planning and should be booked as full sessions.
Can we use the porch, vineyard, barn, or other parts of the property?
The 20-minute Limelight Hydrangea Sessions remain within the hydrangea area.
If you would like to use more of The McGarity House property, contact me about planning a full session. Access to the property and any applicable venue arrangements will need to be confirmed separately.
Can we change outfits?
I recommend choosing one thoughtfully planned outfit for these sessions. Changing clothes would use a significant portion of the available session time.
If several looks are important to you, a full session will be the better fit.
What happens if it rains or the hydrangeas are no longer photographing well?
I will monitor the forecast and the condition of the garden as your date approaches.
If weather or bloom conditions make the hydrangea session unworkable, I will contact affected clients to discuss the available options according to the terms of the session agreement.
Can I purchase the full gallery?
Yes. Your session includes 15 edited digital images selected from an online proofing gallery. The full gallery may be added for $275.
